Happy New Year!

Happy 2004, everyone! By the time this posts, I’ll probably be asleep in bed, unless I’m trying to get one of the kids to bed.

My resolutions for the year:

  • Lose weight.
  • Finish the Bucky book.
  • Get the three futures and STS articles out the door.
  • Assorted other things relating to home improvements, gardening, etc.

  1. I’m all for making new year resolutions. In fact, two of the entries on your list are on mine as well: weight (of course!) and writing more articles.

When it comes to weight, I’ve teamed up with Alf Rehn (http://www.pinkmachine.com/alfrehn/nastyscholar/): first one to lose four kilograms after January 6, wins a bottle of Laphroaig.

  2. I’ve sometimes wondered if it’s easier to lose weight in pounds than kilo– i.e., pounds are smaller, so you feel like you’re getting a more measurable change for your effort than if you’re weighing yourself in kilograms.

Has anyone done a study comparing weight loss patterns in countries that use different weights and measures?
