This isn’t a blog that has any commercial sponsors; and it’s not usual for me to mention companies that I have some interaction with. But I feel the need to acknowledge the really outstanding work that a couple people did to get my bookbag back to me.
As I said in my last post, on the way back from Incline Village I realized I’d left my bookbag– which contained my Vaio, my notebook, drafts of articles I’m working on, my favorite highlighter, and for all I know winning lottery tickets from 1997– at the condo we’d spent the weekend in.
The next morning I called the Coldwell Banker rental office and spoke to Fran Berlin-Phillips. I explained what had happened. Fortunately, I wasn’t the first person in the history of Tahoe rentals to do something dumb like this, or even that morning: she said the phone had been ringing off the hook with people who’d left stuff behind, though she did allow that I might have taken the prize for Most Valuable Thing Left Behind.
She had housekeeping look for the bag. Sure enough, they found it, and brought it back to the office. Fran then gave me the number of the local packaging and shipping place, Pak Mail.
I called them, and the owner (someone named Stephanie) agreed to overnight it to me when she got it. This is, after all, what these kinds of places do.
The next morning, on her way to work, Fran dropped it off, Stephanie double-boxed it and sent it out, and it arrived this morning.
So Fran and Stephanie, thank you, thank you, thank you. I hope this entry has enough of the right keywords to bring you some good fortune on Google.
