It isn’t quite up to the standard of the Rumsfeld kung-fu tournament in The Onion, but this article from the Pakistan Daily Times is at least illustrative of the kinds of things that some parts of the world seem ready to believe about U.S. foreign policy:

US tried to plant WMDs, failed

According to a stunning report posted by a retired Navy Lt Commander and 28-year veteran of the Defense Department (DoD), the Bush administration’s assurance about finding weapons of mass destruction in Iraq was based on a Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) plan to “plant” WMDs inside the country.

The piece isn’t very convincing, in that it’s strangely short on details once you get into it, but doubtless there are people who’ll believe it completely.

The other interesting thing about it is that, if you look on the navigation bar to the right of the article, you’ll see other Daily Times top stories. They’re all sports: “Lahore to stage first Test against South Africa,” “Fletcher destroying English cricket: Boycott,” “Tracy wins Champ Car Mid-Ohio GP, takes over points lead.”

It’s like some kind of mirror-world ESPN.
