Referrer logs are a great thing: they tell you where people who are reading you have come from. A recent hit pointed me to Wes Meltzer’s “Bloggable” column, which this month includes a reference to my iPod shuffle entry.

Thanks, Wes– though I have to give credit for the line about Carl Van Vechten to The New Yorker critic Alex Ross. I can only aspire to be that clever!

[To the tune of Ludwig van Beethoven, “Marcia funebre: Adagio assai,” from the album Beethoven: Symphonies Nos. 3 Op 55 ‘Eroica’ & No 8 Op 93.]

  1. I’m glad you noticed the hit, although I’m a little disappointed to hear that I can’t credit you with the quote. Shall I send a correction to my editor about that? I like to keep the record straight about that kind of thing.

By the way: I’m a fan, so I’m especially glad you noticed the column!

  2. Well, as the saying goes, good artists borrow, while great artists steal. I think just inserting a line in the piece that says that I’m quoting Alex Ross would be sufficient; or an erratum note, if that’s the way ATPM prefers to do it.

Maybe I’ll now go and touch up that entry, now that more people are going to hit on it!
